The Mercedes-Benz G-Class ranks at the top of any luxury SUV list, thanks to its fine amalgam of technology and opulence with excellent off-road power and top-notch comfort. In its time in the market, Mercedes-Benz G-Class has become a worldwide icon because of its connection to the Russian mob, luxury interiors, and bold styling. But is the vehicle worth the massive investment? In this article, we give you our view on this luxury Mercedes.

Pricing
Almost every Mercedes-Benz G-Class is in the six-figure range, and the number usually is on the higher end of the spectrum, given the various expensive options. In all honesty, we do not recommend the priciest updates.

Instead, we advise opting for thoughtful additions, such as the exquisite interior package, comprising the snazzier trim pieces and polished upholstery. Its seat comfort package has massage front seats equipped with ventilated cushions. In addition, there are adaptive dampers that enable adjustable ride quality. Beyond these features, you can opt for the heated steering wheel option. 

Tech Features
It may seem that the G-Class has the user-experience technology standard in the company’s other models, but the same is not the case despite the presence of two 12.3-inch digital displays under a single piece of glass.  This SUV comes engineered with touch-sensing steering wheel pads, which demand an acclimation period for optimal use.

Unfortunately, its infotainment system lacks natural-voice recognition and a touchscreen because it functions on older COMAND technology. So, if you have to use the infotainment system, you depend mainly on the COMAND controls present at the center console. Even though the knob is easy to press and spin, its enveloping touch-sensing buttons, located beneath the flush gloss-black surfaces, make it challenging to use by feel and memory. Such a placement results in the driver having to look down for modifications, implying eyes off the road, which is not preferable. Of course, it is not a bad system, but it is limited in functionality. However, you will love its Burmester audio system.

Safety Features
Every G-Class has advanced driver-assistance features like self-parking assist and blind-spot monitoring. But, riders experience some issues with the advanced driver aids. However, the adaptive cruise works brilliantly. Sadly, traffic jam assists, automatic emergency stop assistance, and evasive steering assistance attributes common in other Merc products are absent in the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. However, it has standard features like automated emergency braking and forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not performed any crash tests on G-Class, which may be disappointing for many. 

Performance and Fuel Economy
The G-Wagens have 4×4 bona fides, with surprisingly competent handling, a rock-solid feel, and a luxury ride. In G550, the V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo produces 416 hp and is solid to drag a three-ton SUV. Regardless, typically G-Class buyers like the overkill. So, the G63 AMG with 627 pound-feet of torque and 577 horsepower, AMG V-8 4.0-liter handcrafted twin-turbo engine is a more promising pick. It can go from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and achieve 174 miles per hour if you opt for the AMG Driver’s Package.

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates suggest that the 416 hp G550 manages 18 miles per gallon combined, 19 on the highway, and 17 on city roads. But, the G63 AMG manages 14-mpg combined, 16 mpg highway, and 13 mpg city. Such stats put the Mercedes-Benz G-Class high on the internal-combustion guzzlers’ list. 

We cannot deny that Mercedes-Benz G-Class is the range’s stalwart, which is why it looks the same. But do not be disappointed because it has been revamped beautifully underneath. The cabin quality and design make it a competition for the top-end Range Rovers. The G-Class may be relatively less smooth and quiet, but if you seek excellent off-roading capability, you cannot go wrong with this SUV.
